“Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” ― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
There will probably be a lot of “MishMash Musings” in the coming weeks leading up to Dave beginning his Abecma Car T Therapy, currently scheduled for Halloween. Perfect if you ask me.
We have thoroughly enjoyed having Montana and Jeffers here spend some fun days with us in Little Rock. They were supposed to fly home yesterday but got caught up in the Southwest flight cancellations debacle. The reasons for it are quite the debate online. So a pivot was in order, and we brought them back to the apt to hang out and sleep on the provided air mattress. Jeffers cooked an excellent Salmon dinner with a tortellini/broccoli side that was fabulous with the Salmon. Then we settled in for our second round of Rummikub, a fun tile game based on Rummy, complete with trash-talking!
We had pulled pork at the Whole Hog, and it was also suggested we try Sims as well, and we will do that. An excellent steak dinner at the Faded Rose outside with a Napa Cab Wine. We enjoyed two visits to Brewski’s downtown, a sports bar, and watching the college games on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday. Great wings!
So right now, the kiddos are hoping to make it home on a Wednesday flight. They even looked at different airlines, and for $1000, they were happy to get them home! In the meantime, Dave and Montana are working their remote jobs while Jeffers and I quietly find things to do. We all mesh together so well. I could not be happier to have this wonderful man who married our daughter in my life, FOREVER!
A wonderful Myeloma Blessings meet-up happened yesterday afternoon. A wonderful mother, caregiver taking care of her adult daughter with Myeloma is next up in the queue for Car T. She reached out to me as they are now trying to stabilize her. We had a robust 2 hr conversation about many things and sharing our journeys to this place we find ourselves now. We had similar outlooks and perspectives. Both her daughter and my husband have lived as fully as they can with great aplomb! Since we are ahead of them, it was an essential connection for her. To know firsthand what we go through so she can continue to be a great proactive caregiver, which she already is. Just stellar. We needed many more hours and a bottle of wine even to touch all the subjects we wanted to explore. My grandfather was from Oklahoma, though he lived in Wichita, so we had a lovely conversation about the people of Oklahoma. I had a memorable experience there when I went with my mom to bury him. I’ve never forgotten how the citizens of Enid made me feel. She validated my experience and then told me some incredible stories about the people of Enid. I will be praying for her daughter to make it stably to the start of her Car T and through it with the best outcome. If any of you are reading this utilize prayers for others; please add Stephanie to the list. It was a great couple of hours. Meeting up was one of those things we all enjoyed here pre-covid, connecting and supporting one another in this journey and sharing our lives. It feels great to have a little bit of that back on this trip!
Jeffers started as a physical therapist out of college. So he put Dave through his paces and is very impressed with what Dave can do. He educated him on the exercises Dave was given from our PT consult. We are close to getting the in-home PT started this week. With the kids still here, I may need to ask if we can start on Thursday. It’s a tad crowded. Jeffers also gave Dave a much-needed haircut with some clippers we had. He and the firefighters all give each other haircuts, so he’s pretty skilled, and it looks great.
Things are all in all wonderful, and we are enjoying those lazy days when they come. I have my knitting and my cool new MacBook pro 13″, Montana has been helping me maximize some of its features, and always some good books to read on my kindle. Too many. It’s as bad as collecting yarn, collecting books to read at some point. Oh, and Harrisville sent my potholder loops here instead of California. Well, actually the post office forwarded them. I was not happy about that. So because it was a significant amount of loops, I went ahead and ordered another potholder loom while I’m here. I’ll send it to my sister when we go home. She’s been wanting to do it. So I’ll have that fun thing to occupy my time while we are here.
And I just have to say, it’s been wonderful to be writing again and I’ve enjoyed those who have reached out as we traverse this next episode in Myelomaville!
