“The Internet is just a world passing around notes in a classroom.” – Jon Stewart
I don’t mean to be flip… I LOVE the internet and its ability to share cool things and things of value. I have a tumblr webpage I started years ago, to throw up things I found, or were sent to me that I wanted to keep. Tumblr, a free service, (some 19 year old made a few million dollars off the idea!) that allows you to easily put things on it from your surfing around the net and “reblog” things from other tumblr’s. It capitalized on the incestuousness of the internet, what we now call “viral”. The name I think came from tumbling along the internet (surfing) and finding cool things. It is a TumbleLog. Well like all things, it has it’s UP sides and it’s DOWN sides. The down is we are less creative ourselves, perhaps. The upside is it can bring us pleasure and enjoyment to share quirky, funny and sometimes profound things with others. Not too mention I don’t have to store it on my computer and organize it. I can just throw it up there and forget about it after throwing in a few searchable tags. Its really exciting when you throw something up and discover its gone viral on tumblr with hundreds/thousands of “reblogs”. The down side – you actually feel like you accomplished something of great significance when that happens. “Get a life!” comes to my mind.
Anyway, I digress… The point is that Pat, has been blogging and writing about all things Myeloma for sometime, and has posted an email exchange he and I had last night. Post here.
He graciously asked more about my thoughts on the Revlimid, Secondary Cancer scare that he first started writing about last year. Pat and I are on different sides of the fence on treatment paths, but over the last couple of years we have managed to appreciate and respect each other’s efforts to bring information to those Myeloma patients/caregivers looking for accurate and up-to-date information. Unlike me however, Pat has dedicated himself to researching and writing about Myeloma. He goes to conferences, he writes a column for The Myeloma Beacon, he supports others in this fight against Myeloma in numerable ways. Anyway, some of you may be interested in my email response to him, utilizing the internet and linking back and forth in The BLOGOSPHERE! Definitely one of the UP sides of the internet to be sure!
